Tuning The Rotax 800 Triple

Tuning The Rotax 800 Triple

Ski-Doo dropped their Type 809 three cylinder 800 engine into the new CK3 chassis last season, and while it proved to be a torque monster in the low end and midrange, the peak power output and bandwidth was lacking. Ski-Doo followed up with calibration improvements that seemed to make a significant improvement, but was this the answer or just a quick fix? Now for '99 we're told that the Mach Z (and Mach 1) will return to an end outlet pipe design; for what reason?

The white pipe is what comes out of our Grieve oven. After just a few minutes in our industrial tumbler, it shines right up.

We are always looking for an extra performance edge on our race sleds and one of the things we found was the heat-retention properties of ceramic coated pipes. We’ve all seen the guys on the starting line running cycle after cycle through the engine to get the pipes as hot as possible. They do that because they know that a hot pipe is a happy pipe. But when it’s winter and you stop for a few minutes to grab a smoke or wait for your buddies at an intersection, your pipe is cooling off. The same thing happens just by riding in sub-zero or in snowy conditions. The result is that you’re not running at optimum performance. The mountain riders have known and enjoyed the advantages of ceramic-coated pipes for years. Aggressive trail guys are just learning about it. With the ceramic coating’s superior heat retention, your sled will maintain a crisp throttle response with less bogging and better acceleration. In our quest to maintain the same high quality standards we hold our standard black painted products to, we invested in our own ceramic oven and tumbler. By having all of the ceramic equipment in-house, we can turn around an order in less time, because we’re not dependent on outsourcing.

What They're Saying...

“We’ve used several Dyno Port exhaust systems over the years, with consistent power gains and weight reductions in each case. And in each case, those products fit like they were made at the factory!”
Kevin Beilke,
Snow Tech Magazine

“Three things we can always count on when a Dyno Port product comes to our shop are that it will be well-built; it will deliver the performance improvement it promises; and it will be simple to install without jetting hassles.”
Shane Zeppelin,
